Property Overview

Introduction:
A captivating western Black Hills ranch in the middle of elk country with live water, a stocked trout pond, privacy, excellent wildlife habitat, amazing scenery, and access to a vast amount of public lands. Stockade Beaver Creek winds through the canyon for over two miles. This wild and scenic property is in a truly unique location adjacent to the Wyoming-South Dakota stateline. The east boundary of the ranch joins hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands including a wide expanse of Black Hills National Forest and BLM that extends into the back country of western South Dakota. The south border is adjacent to State Land.

Property and Grazing Permit:
   927 ± deeded acres
310 ± acre BLM Grazing Permit
1,237± total acres

Approximately 9 acres of the deeded property has covenants.  A copy of the covenants is available upon request. The remaining deeded land does not have any covenants.

Water:
Stockade Beaver Creek flows through the entire length of the property from north to south. On the north end of the ranch, the owners have built a pond with a fresh water inflow from the creek. Two electric pumps maintain the fresh water entry and provide habitat for fish to winter over in the pond. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout. An underground sprinkler system around the pond creates a beautiful spot to relax all summer and enjoy the surroundings.

Terrain:
The diversity of the land, combined with the mixture of plant species that range in color and change with the seasons offer a striking Black Hills scene. The dramatic combination of topographical characteristics make a spectacular setting and an excellent environment for wildlife. The landscape includes creek bottoms, forested hills, expansive valleys, hidden meadows, deep draws, rimrock ledges, high table lands and steep mountainous country. Ponderosa pine and spruce forest is mingled with quaking aspen, cedar and underbrush of juniper, willow, Oregon grape, buffalo berry and choke cherry. Stockade Beaver Creek meanders the full length of the property through Beaver Creek Canyon.

Wildlife:
With the combination of live water, seclusion, plentiful cover and feed, the wildlife habitat is tremendous. Area wildlife include elk, Whitetail deer, mule deer, Merriam turkey, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, red fox, hawks and eagles. Several elk shed horns have been found and many elk rubs have been observed on the property.

Buildings:
Next to the pond is a storage shed for recreational gear, fish food, pond equipment and mowers.

A variety of secluded cabin sites are present on the ranch. The upper elevation building site on the north side would be conducive for a year-round residence location.

Recreation:
Even though the terrain is rugged, miles of trails run throughout the land making great recreation resources and providing access from the lower elevations to the upper table lands. The trails would be a plus for those wanting to go horseback riding, have hiking paths, wildlife observation points, photography outings, hunting camps or exploring on mountain bikes, ATVs, snowmobiles or cross-country skis. The private fish pond is stocked with rainbow trout and there are brook trout in Stockade Beaver Creek. The many natural rock walls on the property offer rock climbing adventures. Mallo Camp lies adjacent to the north side of the ranch. Hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails connect throughout the Black Hills, with Trail #11 going through Mallo Camp.

Location & Access:
The ranch is situated between Newcastle, Wyoming and Deadwood, South Dakota in the middle of the Black Hills.  It’s east of Highway 85 from Four Corners, Wyoming about 4.7 miles via Mallo Road, which is county maintained, and then a private access easement which comes into the north side of the property.

Additional Property Available
The ranch joins the Canyon Springs Overlook, which is also available to purchase. It offers an additional 44 acres with a log cabin, shop and two-bedroom apartment. Click here to view Canyon Springs Overlook.
